Friday - 1.11.13 

This week has been slightly dramatic for me. Pregnancy and bed rest are starting to take there toll on me. Being in constant pain had me in tears in the middle of Costco, sobbing to my mom. My kids think now is a good time to not listen to me at all, as if they listened before. Oh well, wa wa, poor me, boo hoo. I'm over it.  Let's move on to more exciting things.

As I mentioned last week I started a new Giveaway page, you can subscribe to only my giveaways or both, my normal blog feed and my giveaways, however you want. I just wanted to give people the option, seeing as some people just want to read my blog and not be flooded with the other stuff. This page will have blogger opps on it as well so if your looking for giveaways to promote they will be there. I am making it a goal to be a part of 10 giveaways a month.

I have always been a beauty enthusiast, even if having kids and being pregnant made me lazy about it! That's why I decided to widen out from just nails to all beauty. I just found this writer on BlogHer but she hit the nail on the head with how I feel right now. She's a little farther along then me and may have already had the baby, but I couldn't explain how I'm feeling in better words. I hate that pregnancy makes me feel disabled, when in my head I'm perfectly capable. Glad to know I'm not the only one!

Supply list to do acrylic nails

Here is a list of supplies you will need, with pictures! 

You can also print this list with or without the pictures.

What you need:

This is the kit I got from Sally's the first time.

Something like this is a great buy, it has most of what you need:

1/2 fl oz, Nail Liquid

1/4 oz, Sculptured Acrylic Powder

1/3 fl oz. Sure Bond Non-Acid Nail Primer

1 fl oz. Prep B-4 Pre Nail Extension Dehydrant

40 Ct Assorted Natural Tips

0.1 fl oz. Quick Dry Nail Glue

However, you only get enough to do 1 set and 1 fill.

And I don't care for the tips that come in this kit, you see the one's I like and why below.

Nail Liquid

I like Extra Stregth because I'm tough on my hands.

This is the stuff that when combined with the powder (see below)

makes the acrylic that is molded onto your finger.

 Sculptured nail powder

I would start with clear or natural.

________________________________________________________

Nail dehydrant

Dehydrates the natural nail surface and

balances the pH for maximum adhesion of

acrylics, tips, polish and glue.

________________________________________________________

Non-acid primer

This works by depositing chemical magnets

that promote acrylic polish retention.

Nail Glue

I like this brand: ibd

So far their "no clog" statement seems to be true.

This comes in a brush-on and dropper -

I haven't had much success with brush on glues,

so I prefer droppers.

Plastic nail tips

This is how you extend the length of the nail.

They glue to the tips of your natural nail

and the acrylic is molded on top.

I prefer the pointed ends rather the the curved off ones.
They tend to have a more natural curve and adhere better
because the point go farther onto the nail.

  Acrylic Brush

This is the brush you will use to mold the acrylic to the nail. 

Number 8 or size 8 is a good beginner size.

Dappen Dish

You will need two of these, 

 one for powder and one for liquid.

Tip Clippers

This is optional, you can use regular nail clippers,

but this little tool make it much easier! 

________________________________________________________

  

 

Rectangular Nail File 

If you don't have a drill these will be what you 

will use to sand down the harden acrylic. 

They need to be coarse, I find the 100/100 grit to be the best.

Banana Nail File

This file is helpful for shaping the edges of the nail 

and for giving the natural look along the cuticle.

Buffer Block

This come in different colors and coarseness. 

It's really personal preferance. 

Once the nail is sanded down to  desired shape,

it need to be buffed out before it can be painted. 

This essentially make the nail smooth.

Sanding Sticks

Life savers! These are for the cleaning underneth the nail. 

Just in case you get acrylic stuck under there. 

If you have a drill you don't need these. 

You would just use the skinny drill bit.

Cuticle Oil

This whole process dries out your cuticles. 

So the oil helps keep them soft. 

This brand smells really good too!

Scrub Brush
After your done molding, shaping and buffing the nails,
you want to scrub them really good with soap before you paint.

________________________________________________________

Pure Acetone
You will need this for clean up.
After dumping out your dishes,
let each dish sit with a little of this in them
 to clean out remanents of powder and liquid.
You will also want to clean you acrylic brush
 by soaking it for a few minutes.
Then washing it with warm soapy water.
CAUTION!
Acetone will remove not only your polish but acrylic too!
