Wordless Wednesday: Bass Lake

This summer we took our yearly trip up to Bass Lake, which is just below Yosemite. We had a blast. Well at least after we got there...

The car ride looked something like this

But then we were in the water and everyone was having fun!

DIY Kids Art Board

So one day the Dormouse decided the wall in what we call the "kids room" was the best place to start gluing her "art" to. I did not. The only thing that would get it off was Goo Gone!

I thought a board where no glue was involved (especial for her!) would be great for her to display her ever growing collection of pictures for mommy. This was so easy to make and I even let her help!

What you need for this project
Foam board
Curling Ribbon
Regular tape
Decorative Duck Tape
Scissors

Start by taking the ribbon and measure from one corner to the other. Cut a piece of ribbon a bit longer than that and tape it down.

I recommend taping on the front to hold in in place and then folding over over the ribbon and taping to to the back to keep it from slipping. I knotted the ends to give it double the strength.

Now keep going, moving out from the corner.

Make sure you weaving the ribbon in and out so it makes boxes. This way pictures will stay in place.

Half way done!

I was reinforcing tape. If two ribbons lined up I just tape each ribbon.

This is how it should look when the ribbon is all on the board. Remember it doesn't have to be perfect.

And this is how the back will look. Don't worry if it looks sloppy we're going to cover it.

Next step is the fun Duck Tape!

Tape each on the edges, leaving just a little bit flap in tuck over the edge.

Then do the same on the back. You can cut off the extra ribbon if you want, but nobody is going to see it.

Next take two of those of the Command picture hanging strips, the Velcro kind. They are easy peel off so they won't hurt your wall. Press them together and stick on side to the board.

Close up of what the look like stuck to the board.

Once you figure out where you want to hang it. Peel off the other side and press against the wall.
And Walla!

A tribute to a brilliant actor, Robin Williams.

I don't think there is one person on earth who can say Robin Williams didn't make them laugh a time or two. I could only imagine how he was in real life; I would have loved to have met him. I feel like I would have been able to sit and talk to him for hours, like he would never let the conversation go dry. He was a part of my childhood, a part my adulthood. On a sad, depressing day I could always count on a good Robin Williams movie to cheer me up.

I am truly sadden to read about his death. Even more sad to know that someone who brought the world so many smiles and so much laughter suffered from depression. Reading the LA Times report on him feels surreal. It seems to me that the ones that make us laugh the most are the ones harboring the most pain inside. I can relate, I feel a hint of his pain. I too suffer from depression, it can be ruff. And just because you find help doesn't mean your cured, the key is finding what helps you personally to keeping fighting the battle. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying Robin gave up, I'm sure he was dealing with it the best he could, but it just goes to show depression can get the best of us.

I can't sit here and say honestly there haven't been days I didn't fell like ending it myself. It's an ongoing struggle, sure sometimes meds help, positive thinking, hotlines and therapy. But the reality is it's something you have to continue to fight. I'm not trying to get all preachy, but I myself turn to the scriptures for help.

Here are a few I'd like to share:

Anxiety and depression

1 Peter 5:7 "while you throw all your anxiety on him, because he cares for you."

Psalm 55:22 “Throw your burden on Jehovah, and he will sustain you. Never will he allow the righteous one to fall.”

Isaiah 41:10 “Do not be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be anxious, for I am your God. I will fortify you, yes, I will help you, I will really hold on to you with my right hand of righteousness.”

Matthew 6:34 “So never be anxious about the next day, for the next day will have its own anxieties. Each day has enough of its own troubles.”

Phillippians 4:6, 7 "Do not be anxious over anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication along with thanksgiving, let your petitions be made known to God; and the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and your mental powers by means of Christ Jesus."

Comfort

1 Thessalonians 4:18 "So keep comforting one another with these words."

Psalms 34:18 " He heals the brokenhearted; He binds up their wounds."

Isaiah 57:15 "For this is what the High and Lofty One says, Who lives forever and whose name is holy: 'I reside in the high and holy place, But also with those crushed and lowly in spirit, To revive the spirit of the lowly And to revive the heart of those being crushed.'"

2 Corinthians 1:3 "Praised be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of tender mercies and the God of all comfort,"

I'm not trying to push religion on anyone, I just wanted to help others find comfort the way I do, through the Bible. If that works for you great, if not then I hope you find comfort in your own way. If anyone is interested, here is a Bible based article I read to help those with depression, cope.

I pray for Robin's family and hope they find comfort in this time of terrible tragedy.

I can't imagine a man of his humor would want anyone to be sad over his death, but to remember all the ways he made us laugh. So I hope you find comfort in those scriptures and can go back to a memory of when this dear soul made your day.

Here are just a handful of my favorite Robin William movies....
